Polishing powders for glass processing
The polishing powders for flat glass processing are used in three different cases.
Bevel polishing: in this case the operator or the machine uses a felt (or other material as polyurethane) on which is send a mixing with water and the polishing powder. It is the only way to obtain a perfect bevel polishing on flat glass.
The scratches removal: here you have to give again to the glass its former transparency which was cancelled by the abrasive products used to remove the scratches.
The glass surface cleaning before a following processing.
To carry out this metallic oxides, natural or not are used, the most known is the cerium oxide (the cerium is a chemical element from the rare earth family).
Polishing products caracteristics
1/The product must be mixed with water
This products are generally mixed with water which act as cooling product. Some additional products are added to the polishing powders to give a good mixing.
2/It must not glue at the back of the tank during the production stops
The polishing powders have to be quickly mixed with the water when the production starts again.
3/They must not be degraded by bacterium
A polishing devices not used for a period (holidays..) can be polluted by bacterium.
4/They have to be efficient for a large temperature scale (from some degrees up to 40 degrees Celcius)
