Vitromusée Romont exhibition
The Vitromusée Romont and the neighbouring Museum of Wallpaper in the castle of Mézières are organizing an exhibition of contemporary glass. Thematic concept: glass design for everyday use. The exhibition will take place 22 April – 1 November 2017.
Thematic concept: glass design for everyday use Back to the roots: functional glass objects. The exhibition will not be concerned with ‘glass art’, but rather artistically or technically outstanding glass objects that have been made to be used. It represents an attempt to attract a broader and younger target audience to the world of well-designed glass. Glass objects that one can use throughout one’s life and for a variety of purposes (‘from baby bottle to urn’). Objects that are original, innovative, highly artistic or even playful – but always created for a practical reason. In this context, an object whose qualities are only artistic, aesthetic or ethereal cannot be considered ‘utilitarian’. All techniques will be represented, including stained glass, flat glass and jewellery. The exhibition will incorporate individual objects and small series of objects, as well as industrially manufactured items, all of which will come directly from the artists or workshops – no galleries or agents will be involved. Preference will be given to newer objects, but older works will also be accepted. For logistical reasons, preference will also be given to smaller objects. The exhibition will present the objects in everyday situations. The works will be available for sale from the museum shops and possibly also online. Prices must be low or affordable.
