The Vitromusée Romont and the neighbouring Museum of Wallpaper in the castle of Mézières are organizing an exhibition of contemporary glass. Thematic concept: glass design for everyday use. The exhibition will take place 22 April – 1 November 2017.

Thematic concept: glass design for everyday use Back to the roots: functional glass objects. The exhibition will not be concerned with ‘glass art’, but rather artistically or technically outstanding glass objects that have been made to be used. It represents an attempt to attract a broader and younger target audience to the world of well-designed glass. Glass objects that one can use throughout one’s life and for a variety of purposes (‘from baby bottle to urn’). Objects that are original, innovative, highly artistic or even playful – but always created for a practical reason. In this context, an object whose qualities are only artistic, aesthetic or ethereal cannot be considered ‘utilitarian’. All techniques will be represented, including stained glass, flat glass and jewellery. The exhibition will incorporate individual objects and small series of objects, as well as industrially manufactured items, all of which will come directly from the artists or workshops – no galleries or agents will be involved. Preference will be given to newer objects, but older works will also be accepted. For logistical reasons, preference will also be given to smaller objects. The exhibition will present the objects in everyday situations. The works will be available for sale from the museum shops and possibly also online. Prices must be low or affordable.

Saint-Gobain acquired 100% of the capital of the Romanian company Pietta Glass Working, active in glass processing and insulating glass systems for the façade markets and some industrial applications. In 2016, the turnover of Pietta Glass is expected to reach 20 million euros with strong growth potential over the next few years.

The Glazing business is already established in Romania with a flat glass production plant (float) and a magnetron (coater) line. This acquisition will make it possible to extend this industrial device to better serve the growing markets of the facade and to complete its positioning in industrial applications with an optimized cost base. It is part of Saint-Gobain's strategy to increase its supply of products downstream to high value-added systems.

French facade workers evicted from Saint Gobain tower

The French aluminum carpentry companies are indignant at being "evicted," they say, from the construction of the glass facades of the Saint-Gobain tower in La Défense by the Vinci group, who preferred a sub- Turkish dealer at "abnormally low" prices.

"The French facade workers evicted from the tower Saint-Gobain shout their anger," said in a statement Tuesday the professional organization SNFA, which represents some 185 companies that design, manufacture and install aluminum joinery (verandas, windows, facades).

The Vinci group, in charge of the construction of this 39-storey tower under construction in the La Défense business district, "recently chose the Turkish company Metal Yapi" to create the glass façades of the structure, Reports the SNFA.

"The reasons for this choice: again abnormally low prices!", The organization said, denouncing "another blow to French companies, once again deprived of an important market".

Today Metal Yapi "has in France only an establishment of less than 5 people who is not even affiliated to the collective agreement of the building," says the organization.

Thus, according to the SNFA, "all the components of the facades as well as the labor of manufacturing and installation will therefore be entirely of origin + outside Europe +".

"For us, it is impossible to work, respecting all the rules, under the financial conditions imposed by the general companies", major groups of construction and their subsidiaries, told AFP Jean-Luc Marchand, SNFA.

"Our facades will die," he warned.

Some 25,000 m2 of glass facades are to be built on the site of this tower, designed by the French architect Valode and Pistre, whose delivery is planned for the third quarter of 2019.

Metal Yapi, "subcontractor of Bouygues for the facades of the building Le Monde, has already defended the chronicle in 2004," says the SNFA.

This project had given rise to "deplorable conditions of work and accommodation of its employees, which made controversy" says the organization, which sees the consequence of "incredible price discrepancies with French companies."

For the SNFA, these cases of subcontracting foreign to the "disastrous" consequences are "far from being isolated and become even a common practice".

Thus, the façade of the Carpe diem tower, entrusted to the Chinese company Yuanda and also located in La Défense, suffered from "major leaks" which required a clogging for several months, reports Mr. Marchand.

As for the facade of Tower D2, it was entrusted to the subcontractor Kyotec, which itself "subcontracted all its manufacture in Turkey" and filed for bankruptcy before the end of the project.

For the SNFA, French companies are "in a position to offer services of much better quality (...) provided they receive a fair remuneration".

Press release Neptun at Glasstec

A “good show” is where high-quality products meet interested prospects, where a product roadmap turns out to match the ideas and needs of customers for the future of their companies.

This is what happened at Neptun’s booth at Glasstec.

The new module Quickdrill T8, with the fast automatic tools exchange in only 8 seconds, has been warmly welcomed by the visitors as the natural evolution of the successful series Quick, offering high productivity, flexibility and low maintenance costs.  During the show, the Line on display processed glass doors with high quality finishing in only 3’30”,  an output that cannot be reached by vertical all-in-one NC centers.

The manifest flexibility and added value of Quickline attracted customers both from smaller companies, where each investment is object of important budget evaluations, and from the big processing players, where quality and automation of the processes rule above all.

Upon explicit request of the market, Quickdrill is now also available for glass sheets, up to 2600 x 4000mm and will be expanded in the near future also to handle larger dimension.

Diverses recompenses ont été attribuées

Beside the Quickline, symbol of innovation and optimization, Neptun displayed the mitering machine Rock 14-45 and the straight-line edger Rock 8, which stand for tradition and solid know-how, clearly enriched with significant technical improvements (such as the long life track or ETS squaring system) typical of all the products conceived and engineered by Stefano Bavelloni and his team at Neptun’s.

Finally, the range of washing machines was represented by the horizontal washer Tornado HP 1600, always successful thanks to the technical solutions it incorporates, like the automatic system for control and management of the water and the patented energy saving device “Ecosave”.  Visitors were surprised when, standing quietly by the machine for a demo, they realized that the air blowers were actually on. Even more surprised when they heard that the Ecosave mode can save up to 70% of the energy consumption of a standard washer.

A good show is also where people meet people they like to collaborate with. And this also happened at Neptun’s booth.  On Thursday afternoon, at the Partners’ Party, the owners of the company, Stefano Bavelloni, Matteo Rolla and Simona Bavelloni, in the valued presence of Dino Bavelloni, awarded the partners who left their mark on the last business year. The first award was for Yousri Elsayed Sanafi, who distinguished himself for the outstanding results obtained in Egypt as a new partner to Neptun in 2016. He actually managed to have another contract signed just a couple of minutes before the beginning of the Partners’ Party!

The price for the largest single sales contract in 2016 was handed over to Mr. Farjallah and François El Khoury of Theral, Neptun’s agent for Middle East.  Matodi, in the person of John Lloyd and Steve White, was awarded a very special recognition: since the beginning of 2016, they have been selling more than 1 machine per calendar week in the USA and Canada. Finally, the machine n° 600, a Tornado HP 2064 was sold earlier this year in France, by Pascal Royannais of Intermac France, to Verrerie Aurys, a company of the group Saint Gobain Glassolutions.

The awards ceremony was followed by a cocktail party, open to customers, dealers and other friends, to share a warm and friendly moment, just enjoying to be there all together. Ready to take off for more good business.

BAVELLONI S.p.A. again GLASSTEC 2016
